Information For Schools - Elixir Theatre Company
Annalisa and Will have worked with and taught young people for the past two years, and we're passionate about making great theatre for a young audience. We know there’s no shortage of good Shakespeare in London, and there are also plenty of companies who take energetic versions of Shakespeare’s plays into school halls and classrooms. But there are very few companies who offer a theatrical experience aimed at school students and young adults. That’s a gap we want to fill. We’re not interested in putting on ‘Shakespeare-for-kids’, but we do want to put our audience first – every decision we make is prompted by the need to make the play vivid, clear, comprehensible and provocative. We have carefully cut the text to run at under two hours, and we’re focussing on the central theme of community discord to reflect modern divisions and dilemmas and hopefully allow the audience to make a link between the characters and their own lives or modern society.
In conjunction with the show, we are also offering in-school workshops for GCSE and A-level English or drama students. Led by Will and Annalisa, and featuring a pair of actors from the show, the workshops will explore the themes of the play and develop students’ understanding of verse, rhythm and dramatic structure. Elixir will provide an education pack to schools coming to see the play.
Theatro Technis
Theatro Technis is one of London’s top fringe venues with a large amphitheatre-style stage space, perfect for staging Shakespeare. The theatre is three minutes walk from Mornington Crescent tube station, and there’s plenty of room for coaches on the street outside the theatre to drop-off and collect students. The theatre also has a courtyard area which makes a safe place in which school parties can congregate.
